Fly Fishing Tropical Storm Hermine- Port O Conner TX- 30milesOUT fish'n TV

this was a great trip with 2 awesome fly fishermen... new mexico dave and mike graham were on this trip with me... dave has been on several episodes of 30milesOUT... mike is a great fly fishermen.... mike is the vp for the houston fly fishing club... mike is also involved in THE ONE FLY tournament.... in this episode mike talks about THE ONE FLY contest where when why and how...... as you will see in this episode, we really tried to fish between the bands of rain that were coming in...
fly fishing was tough with the high winds... protected spoil banks provided the protection we needed to fly cast... we then switched over to drifting the flats and throwing top water plugs... the zara spook and top dog jr. were doing the trick.... we had several blow ups and caught a few reds on top... this was early fall and the fish were willing to bite... the weather held us at bay thou... we managed to catch a few in mikes shoalwater 14' texas flats boat... we launched at froggies in port o conner tx... we stayed at the pirates cove condos close to the fisherman's center....  i really learned to use the wind to my advantage... mike taught me to put the wind at my back, drift a flat and chunk plugs with the wind... we covered alot of water and casted plugs super far with the wind taking them way out! worked great... i will never fight fly rods and high winds again... it will be flats drifting top water plug time when the winds get over 20mph!
